At Art Stable, the developer successfully activated both the front and back facades. The alley-facing elevation stands out with an 80-foot 5-inch tall hinge and a davit crane, topped with five hand-cranked, steel-clad doors. This design, covering nearly one-third of the facade, pays homage to traditional warehousing methods for moving oversized objects into the building.
The street-side facade features generously-sized hinged windows, ensuring fresh, natural ventilation flows throughout our units. The architect incorporated key architectural principles of prospect and refuge to this urban setting, resulting in spaces that resonate with the dynamism of city life.
Moreover, the units are designed with a unique blend of flexibility and longevity. Zoned for both residential and commercial use, they are primed to adapt to various uses and changes over time. The core structure of the Art Stable has been built with resilience in mind, aiming to last well over a century.
The development team was proud to showcase the innovative and energy-efficient heating and cooling system. This system uses geothermal loops inserted into the building's structural piles, marking one of the first applications of this type of geothermal system in the United States.
The accomplished team, including owners and principals Tom Kundig and Kirsten R. Murray, Project Managers Kevin Kudo-King and Jim Friesz, and Architect Jeff Ocampo, is dedicated to creating unique and sustainable urban spaces.
